Siracusa

Syracuse is an ancient town on the sea, with a superb archaeological zone and a lovely historic centre on the island of Ortigia.

Also known as Città Vecchia, the small island of Ortigia is the oldest part of Syracuse. The name “Ortigia” derives from the Ancient Greek ortyx, which means “quail”. The best way to see Ortigia is just to wander around.

As Syracuse has been inhabited for thousands of years, it has a myriad of ancient attractions including the Greek Theatre, the Temple of Apollo, the Castello Maniace and the monumental Cathedral of Syracuse, a truly beautiful structure which dates back to the 7th century.

Furthermore, due to its coastal location, the city lies in close proximity to several world class beaches where tourists can enjoy the fine Sicilian weather.
